Armed Forces Day Activities Energizes Post

A basketball and softball tournament kept ball diamonds and courts action-packed over the Armed Forces Day weekend.

The Fort Lee Women’s Softball team was named tournament champions after defeating Walter Reed in close competition, 10-8. The Twins won the men’s competition with a 22-17 win over Fun Bunch.

In the basketball tourney, Fort Bragg was the overall winner, defeating ROTC, 53-44.

The Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers program hosted an auto show with Calvin Cooper placing first in the Classic Category (‘98 Honda Civic), Brian Davis won top prize in the Sport Category (‘97 Chevy Corvette) and Dwayne Peterson’s ‘98 Honda Civic won the Tuner Category. John Harris placed first in the Muscle Category and Butch Payton won the Motorcycle Category.

The “Run the Crater” 5K race, Saturday, resulted in a first place finish for Ryan Peterson (18:19) in the men’s category, and Andrea Rivero (23:57) in the women’s. Jim Hicks and Vera Jones placed first in the master’s category. Top team category winners were the 244th Quartermaster Battalion Warriors (58:64 team time). Randy Horner (44:48) and Nancy Walsh (60:13) earned top prize in their categories for the 8-mile run.
