Fort Lee’s chapels offer sanctuary for all faiths


Most military service members believe that faith and religion are vital components of maintaining a healthy and well-balanced life. To help those stationed at Fort Lee, the installation offers a multitude of religious services and programs. Worship services, uplifting music, fellowship, women’s and men’s Bible studies, youth groups, pastoral counseling services and religious education programs for all members of the family are available.

The Fort Lee Unit Ministry Team consists of chaplains, chaplain assistants, two religious education coordinators, one Department of the Army civilian, several non-appropriated fund contractors and numerous volunteers who serve to assist those at Fort Lee with their spiritual growth.

There are two chapels located on post. They are:

Memorial Chapel — Building 10600 at the corner of Sisisky Boulevard and Battle Drive, is a large and spacious permanent facility, serving as a hub for a variety of religious activities and programs on post. For information, call (804) 734-1552/0232.

Heritage Chapel — Building 2607 on Sisisky Boulevard and C Avenue, hosts the Gospel Worship Service and Contemporary Protestant Service along with other religious programs. For information, call (804) 765-2310/3383.

Spiritual Fitness Center — Building 3702 on 16th Street, located in the 23rd Quartermaster Brigade area, is staffed with chaplains and chaplain assistants who serve the spiritual and religious needs of the Soldiers and cadre within the AIT environment at Fort Lee. Other post-wide religious activities include Bible studies, choirs, youth ministries, Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) classes, Sunday School, Protestant Women of the Chapel, Military Council of Catholic Women, Protestant Men of the Chapel, single Soldier ministries, and summer vacation Bible School. In addition to programs and services offered on Fort Lee, there are numerous religious institutions for other religious denominations very close to post. For example, those of the Jewish faith can attend services at Congregation Brith Achim, located at 314 South Boulevard in Petersburg. For information, call (804) 732-3968.
