ROTC Cadet Nicholas Nelson repeats the Oath of Commissioned Officers as it is recited by Maj. Gen. Rodney D. Fogg, CASCOM and Fort Lee commanding general, during a swearing-in ceremony here May 15. Nelson is the son of Defense Contract Management Agency employee Sandra Nelson, who works on Fort Lee. His Reserve Officer Training Corps Spring Commissioning Ceremony at Jacksonville State University, Fla., was cancelled, so Fogg agreed to step in and make his entry into the active Army ranks official. “We are proud to commission Cadet Nelson as a second lieutenant,” the CG stated before administering the oath. “This is a special moment for him, his family, and the Army.” After the swearing in, Nelson exchanged a virtual first salute (BOTTOM PHOTO) with his father, retired Senior Chief Petty Officer Gayland Nelson. “I want to thank Maj. Gen. Fogg for making this a very unique experience for me,” Nelson remarked after the ceremony.
