U.S. Army Europe MP Support Increased Iraqi Police Activity in Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Iraq Nov. 19, 2007 — With the help of the 54th Military Police Company, 95th Military Police Battalion, Iraqi police officers have increased patrols in the New Baghdad District to increase overall safety of the area recently in the New Baghdad region of Baghdad, Iraq.

The battalion, part of U.S. Army Europe's 18th Military Police Brigade, is based in Mannheim, Germany.

The increased Iraqi police patrols have deterred crime by confiscating more than 600 liters of illegal fuel in the last two weeks in the New Baghdad area. The confiscation helps the nearby community cut down on black market sales that undermine economic growth and legitimate sales of fuel.

In response to recent trends in illegal sales, Iraqi police officers tracked where these crimes have been committed in the past, using traffic checkpoints and increased patrols.
