As president of the U.S. Army War College class of 2006-7, Col. John Curran, 49th Quartermaster Group commander, presented a check of $15,582 to helping military families through the Fisher House Foundation Friday.

The presentation was Curran’s final duty as class president. The monies were the remaining funds of class purchases associated with graduation activities.

“I surveyed the class and had a series of different charities that were out there and the Fisher House was number one,” Curran said. “This is the charity that gives directly to military members and their families.”

James Weiskopf and Derek Donovan from Fisher House accepted the check from Curran and two members of the same class, Col. Douglas Knight and Col. Sharon Leary, Combined Arms Support Command.

Weiskopf said the money will go to build new Fisher Houses in Seattle, Los Angeles, San Diego, Dallas and nearby Richmond. The foundation currently operates 38 houses.

“We provide a family with a place to stay while a loved one (military member) is receiving care at an adjacent medical facility,” Weiskopf said.
