Today is the Army’s 232nd Birthday and Chef Robert Tucker, Army Center of Excellence, Subsistence instructor, knows you can’t celebrate a birthday without a birthday cake.
Tucker invited his top food service specialists from an acelerated course to bake a three-part red, white and blue cake.
“I wanted to include the students who performed well during the cake-decorating phase of the class,” Tucker said.
Before joining the Army, Pfc. David Bittinger used to work as an assistant to a pastry chef on a Norwegian cruise line.
“It’s rewarding to be part of the longevity of the Army and to be here (at ACES) in time for the celebration,” Bittinger said.
Pvt. Bradley McWillie said he was honored that his instructor would ask him to assist in the project.
“It’s not just a cake for grandma, it’s for the Army’s birthday celebration,” McWillie said.
Tucker and the students began the three-day undertaking Monday.
