Virtual Pre-Retirement Seminar Set for Aug. 28

A virtual pre-retirement seminar for military members who are within 12-24 months of separation from service will be presented Aug. 28, 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. No registration is necessary, however, those interested in participating should immediately contact the Retirement Services Office ( or 804-734-6973) for the event link.

The free seminar will cover a variety of post-military-career topics. Spouses of separating military members are welcome. Early pre-retirement planning is essential to a smooth transition out of the service and understanding the full range of veteran benefits and entitlements. This is the last seminar for 2020.

New A Ave. Gate Hours Go into Effect Today

The new A Avenue Gate hours, effective today, will be 5 a.m. - 6 p.m. to facilitate school bus operations. The change also will facilitate parents and students attending Prince George County School orientations.

Kenner Facilities Will Be Closed on Labor Day

Kenner Army Health Clinic and Troop Medical Clinics 1 and 2 will be open with normal business hours for patient care on the Sept. 4 military training holiday. All clinics and services will be closed in observance of Labor Day on Sept 7.

Run for Fallen Will Be Virtual

Community members on- and off-post are invited to take part in a virtual Run for the Fallen event Sept. 12-13.

The online observance hosted by ACS Survivor Outreach Services will honor fallen heroes and their family members and friends who survive them. Participants can run or walk during the two days where they live or along a 5K route on post featuring photographs of fallen military service members on display. CYS Seeks Volunteer Youth Sports Coaches

Volunteer coaches are needed for various fall sports leagues offered by the Family and MWR Child and Youth Service program.

Those interested in coaching youth, ages 3 and older, can become certified to do so even if they have never played or coached before.

PG Schedules School Orientations

Prince George County Public Schools has scheduled virtual and in-person school orientations Sept 1-3.

Parents who have registered their children for school should receive notification of the times, virtual conferencing links or in-person appointments. The general schedule is as follows: Sept 1, 8th-12th grades (virtual); Sept. 2, Pre-K (in-person and virtual) and 6th-7th grades (virtual); Sept. 2-3, Kindergarten (in-person and virtual); and Sept. 3, lst-5th grades (virtual).

Signup Underway for Annual G.I. Jane Challenge

The G.I. Jane Challenge – a one-day outdoor competition for women with skeet shooting, mountain biking and rock wall climbing – is scheduled for Sept. 26, 8 a.m. - 2 p.m., starting at Outdoor Recreation, building 15014, 5th Street.

This competition is open to military members and their spouses, government civilians and contractors. The entry fee is $45. All equipment and a lunch is provided.
