Housing Town Hall Set for Aug. 19

            Results of the recent privatized housing survey and a new web-based app titled “RENTCafe Resident” will be among the topics discussed at the quarterly Housing Town Hall set for Aug. 19, 4:30 p.m., in Memorial Chapel.

            All military families residing on Fort Lee are encouraged to participate in-person or online, as the session will be live-streamed via the installation’s Facebook page – www.facebook.com/ArmyFortLee. A large portion of the meeting will be focused on audience comments and questions, which can be raised during the session or submitted in advance through direct message to the Facebook page (please avoid posting phone numbers, addresses or other personally identifying information).

            Free on-site child care is available. Col. Hollie Martin, garrison commander, will be the primary briefer during the session and Maj. Gen. Rodney Fogg, CASCOM and Fort Lee commanding general, is tentatively scheduled to speak. Representatives of Hunt Communities, Fort Lee’s housing partner, will be in attendance.

Kenner Plans Closures for Labor Day Weekend

Kenner Army Health Clinic and Troop Medical Clinic 1 will be open with normal business hours for patient care on the Aug. 30 military training holiday. Troop Medical Clinic 2 will be closed that day. All clinics and services will be closed in observance of Labor Day on Sept 2.

Exchange Plans ‘Cool School’ Celebration

The Army and Air Force Exchange Service will hold a Cool School Look event Aug. 17.

            At the celebration, shoppers can try beauty products, participate in workshops and store giveaways, and save on $30 purchases of skin care, fragrances or cosmetics. MILITARY STAR® cardholders will receive a greater discount on a $60 purchase.

To receive discounts, shoppers must present the coupon from the weekly sales flyer or shopmyexchange.com at the register.

AAFES Expands Pick-up-in Store Option

An expanded buy online, pickup in-store service is now available for a host of items offered by the Army and Air Force Exchange.

The agency reports that about 95 percent of its merchandise on shopmyexchange.com can now be shipped to and picked up at the military store nearest the ordering customer.

Aug. 21 TARP Briefings Cancelled

     The Threat Awareness and Reporting Program briefings scheduled for Aug. 21 have been cancelled. The final 2019 briefs are set for Nov. 13, 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., at the Lee Theater.

     The training is a mandatory annual requirement for military members, DOD employees and contractors with a security clearance. Personnel should bring their CAC for verification of attendance and arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start time to complete the sign-in process.

DMV Opens Online License Plate Surrender Option

The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles now allows residents to surrender their license plates online.

Previously, license plates from vehicles that were sold, traded or no longer operated were required to be returned to DMV offices. To complete the new online process, people need their current or prior Virginia driver’s license number, license plate number and the last four digits of the vehicle identification number.
