Classes Available for Adult Community Members

Army Community Service Relocation Readiness, in partnership with Southside Programs for Adult Continuing Education, offers free classes for community members pursuing their diplomas.

Instructional areas available include reading, math, language and employment skills as well as study sessions for completing high school equivalency diplomas. Students may enroll at any time.

Officer Association Accepting Scholarship Applications

The Southside Virginia Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America will award $2,000 Roper Memorial Scholarships to high school or home-school seniors in the greater Fort Lee area.

To be eligible, students must have a parent or grandparent who is on active duty, retired or a member of the Southside Chapter of MOAA. One scholarship is available for a Junior ROTC cadet who must be sponsored by an ROTC faculty member or school principal. MOAA also has $500, $750 or $1,000 Tuition Assistance Grants for the spring and summer 2020.

To be eligible for grants, students must meet the same requirements. The scholarships and grants must be used to cover fees at a post-secondary school or institution. Applications must be mailed and postmarked by March 20.

FLASC Accepting Applications for Scholarships

The Fort Lee Area Spouses’ Club is accepting merit and community service scholarship applications for the upcoming academic year. Completed application packets should be submitted or postmarked by March 5.

Parents or applicants must be a full-year member of FLASC to qualify. Scholarship eligibility is open to graduating high school seniors who plan to continue their education as well as enrolled fulltime college students and military spouses attending college (full- or part-time). 'Fill Your Gym Bag' Sweepstakes Underway

Authorized shoppers at the Army and Air Force Exchange Service have a chance to be winners in the Fill Your Gym Bag Sweepstakes through Feb. 17.

Registration Open for Homebuyer’s Course 

Registration is open for a free First Time Homebuyers Workshop set for Feb. 25, 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m., in the Soldier Support Center, building 3400, Room 125.   

Participants will learn about personal finance, credit issues, qualifying and applying for a loan and more. The workshop is open to active duty military and their adult immediate family members, reservists, National Guard personnel, veterans, DOD Civilians and their spouses.
