DoD Extends ID Card Expiration Dates
The Secretary of Defense recently authorized continued benefit use of dependent and retired identification cards that expired on or after Jan. 1. The extension is through June 30, 2021. This means individuals with expired or soon-to-expire cards can continue using them for installation access, health care, commissary entry and other authorized benefits.
The Directorate of Human Resources is aware of some instances in which the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (used to verify Tricare eligibility) has not automatically updated records to reflect the new authorized expiration date, resulting in conflicts with the medical system. For that reason, the ID card office has continued to offer renewal appointments to customers who still need them. Retirees and dependents can also renew their ID cards by mail.
Additional information about remote renewal and ID card services at Fort Lee is available at home.army.mil/lee/index.php/about/Garrison/directorate-human-resources/military-personnel-division/id-cards-deers-enrollment.
