Hispanic Heritage Event Set for Sept. 19

Fort Lee’s annual Hispanic Heritage Month celebration is set for Sept. 19, 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., in the Lee Theater. Admission is free and open to the public.

The guest speaker will be Jose Hernandez, Petroleum and Water Department director, Quartermaster School. Special cultural dances by cadre and others are planned. Local community members who plan to attend are reminded a valid state- or government-issued photo ID card is required for access to the installation by anyone 18 years of age or older. Exchange Shoppers Can ‘Give and Get Back’

The Army and Air Force Exchange Service has scheduled its next Give and Get Back sales event for Sept. 13-17. Shoppers can donate to Army Emergency Relief or the Air Force Assistance Fund at the register. For every $5 donated, shoppers will receive a coupon for $5 off a $25 purchase at the Exchange.

The coupons are valid Sept. 13-17 and can be redeemed in-store or online at shopmyexchange.com.

POW/MIA Observance Set for Sept. 26

Fort Lee’s annual POW/MIA Recognition Day observance and luncheon will be held Sept. 26, 11:30 a.m., in the Lee Club main ballroom.

The event will feature an honor guard and a missing man ceremony in which troops place commemorative items on a table dedicated to POWs and MIAs. Command Sgt. Maj. Terry D. Burton, Ordnance Corps CSM, will be the featured speaker. The cost of the luncheon is $16.

Signup Underway for Revive! Training

Registration is open for a special training class titled “Revive! Opioid Overdose and Naloxone Education for Virginia.” The free workshops are set for Oct. 17, 10-11:30 a.m. and 1-2:30 p.m., in Larkin Hall, across from DCMA on A Avenue.

The classes are for anyone who may be using, has used or knows of others who use these opioids, which have a high overdose risk. Participants will learn how to save lives and more.

PX Offers Discounts for USAF Birthday

The Fort Lee Exchange will mark the 72ndanniversary of the Air Force by offering a variety of one-day discounts Sept. 18. 

The discounts for authorized shoppers include 10 cents off each gallon of fuel when using a MILITARY STAR® card, a 15 percent savings at Exchange restaurants with the card, a 10 percent discount on Air Force gifts when using the card and more. Additional discounts are being offered.

ESL, GED Classes Offered at Lee

The Army Community Service Relocation Readiness Program offers free English as a Second Language and General Equivalent Diploma College and Career Development Program classes on a weekly basis at Fort Lee.

Partnering with Southside Programs for Adult Continuing Education, the sessions are held, 9 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., in building 6047, Mekong Road, behind the Strength Performance Center. ESL is held Tuesdays and Thursdays and GED is set for Mondays and Wednesdays.
