FORT LEE, Va. (April 8, 2010) – With the explosive growth at Fort Lee due to the Base Realignment and Closure additions, it’s to be expected that people may not know where to go for basic post offerings.

Most of the construction has been focused toward educational projects such as Army Logistics University, Ordnance Campus and the Joint Transportation School, but other organizations have new homes all across post.

One of the largest new additions to Fort Lee is Faughn Hall, or the Soldier Support Center, which has become a centralized personnel center for military members.

The design of the building was made with the customer in mind, including entrances targeted toward certain populations. The door closest to 13th Street is for permanent party personnel processing and the door closest to 16th Street is for student processing.

On the permanent party side of the building, customers can find Personnel Services, Army Community Services, Housing Services Office, Retirement Services Office, Vehicle and Weapon Registration, DEERS and ID Card Section, Defense Military Pay Office, Transportation (Commercial and Personal Property), and the Army Career and Alumni Program.

The student processing area is smaller and includes a Trainee and Student Processing Center and a Transition Center.

Additional offices are located upstairs and include the Retention Office, Casualty Office, Personnel Automation and Personnel Reassignments, which houses the passport function as well.

The difference between the old Soldier One Stop in building 12010 and the new Soldier Support Center in building 3400 is the processing center has been mostly centralized. The Soldier One Stop housed adjutant general and human resources functions while the rest of the organizations were spread across post.

Another addition is the inclusion of a 24-hour duty person. Military members can have someone sign them off leave or give them directions any time of the day.

Another highly visible project is the future demolition of Mifflin Hall. Due to the projected deconstruction, the Office of the Quartermaster General and the QM School command group have moved to the Sustainment Center of Excellence Headquarters building. The remainder of the offices in Mifflin Hall will leave within the next two weeks and be relocated primarily to buildings 4200 and 4225.

SEC-Lee moved from building 10500, the old Combined Arms Support Command headquarters, to building 1109, or the “Block House.” The Defense Contract Management Agency is relocating from northern Virginia to building 10500 in the next few years.

The Army Community Service building recently added an annex to building 9023 and brought their satellite operation, which contained the Family Advocacy Program, to the same building that houses most of the operations.

Lastly, the old Soldier One Stop will soon be home to garrison headquarters. They will move from Halstead Hall in building 8000, along with the directorate of Family and Morale, Recreation and Welfare, the garrison Resource Management Office, the Safety Office and the Religious Support Office among others.

Construction will continue across the installation for the next few years, and many offices will find themselves in new homes. Continue reading the Fort Lee Traveller for updates on construction projects and follow the Fort Lee Traveller on Facebook to get the latest information.
