FORT LEE, Va (March 17, 2011) -In response to customer suggestions, the Fort Lee Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Directorate has organized its first Celtic Festival, which is scheduled for Saturday, April 9, from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the HideAway Club located on 5th Street, building 15013.

The day will begin with a Celtic 10K road race and 1-Mile Fun Run, starting from Outdoor Recreation (building 15014, 5th Street) at 8 a.m.

Registration is required for the 10K. Competitive age groups include 14 & under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59 and 60+. The early registration fee is $13. Race day registration fee is $15.

T-shirts will be given to the first 100 who register for the 10K only. At 8:10 a.m., the 1-Mile Fun Run will begin. Registration is $2.

Those planning to participate in either race may register at the FMWR Sports Office, building 4320, C Avenue, from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., Monday through Friday until April 8. Registration also will be accepted at Outdoor Recreation (building 15014) on the day of the run at the registration table between 6:30-7:45 a.m. Participants can also send entry forms with a check payable to FMWR Sports Office, 3312 A Ave., Suite 110, building 12010, Fort Lee, VA 23801. Entry forms are available online at www.leemwr.com.

The festival opens at 10 a.m. with authentic Celtic food, music, vendors and more. FMWR's KidZone, featuring inflatable rides and games, also will be there. The KidZone will be free between the hours of 10 a.m. - noon. After that, tickets will be available for purchase at $1 each.

The main stage will feature performances by the 392nd U.S. Army Band, "Uisce Beatha," "Coyote Run" and "Poisoned Dwarf." The Saint Andrew's Legion Pipes and Drums, the Greater Richmond Pipes and Drums and the City of Alexandria Pipes and Drums will be performing as well.

A "Best Legs and Kilt" competition will be held at noon; participants can register at the event.

Parking and admission to this event is free and open to the general public. Directions will be given at the gates for those who require assistance. Roadside signs will also point to the parking areas.

To access Fort Lee, those without Department of Defense vehicle decals must show a driver's license, current vehicle registration and proof of insurance. All individuals 18 years of age or older will need to show a driver's license or other government-issued photo identification.

Outside food and beverages, personal pyrotechnics, glass bottles and pets are not permitted.
