FORT LEE, Va. (March 24, 2011) -As installations around the world prepare to celebrate the Month of the Military Child, the Traveller is looking for local youth to help produce its signature "for kids, by kids" publication.
Each April, Traveller staff members work with youth volunteers to create the Traveller Kids newspaper edition with stories, photos and entertainment for Fort Lee's youngest military members.
It's an initiative with multiple objectives, said Patrick Buffett, U.S. Army Garrison, Fort Lee Public Affairs command information officer and Traveller managing editor.
"We want to ensure the youth of Fort Lee know they have a voice in the community," he said. "We want to provide them the opportunity to express themselves."
Buffett also said he hopes the movement instills an appreciation for newspapers in the youth reporters and readers.
Any youth community member (18 years and younger) are eligible and encouraged to volunteer or submit ideas.
Several writers and photographers are needed to help create the "Kid Grid," a man-on-the-street interview, as well as a movie reviewer to preview the latest video releases and provide an honest opinion. Let the Traveller help you showcase your talent, your idea or your vision in this special newspaper insert.
To volunteer or submit story ideas or suggestions, contact Kimberly K. Fritz, Family/Community Life Reporter at email@example.com or at (804) 734-6963.
The Traveller is delivered to all military homes on Fort Lee and distributed via newsstands throughout the installation.
