Community Invited to Women’s Equality Observance

The installation’s 2019 Women’s Equality Day observance – marking the 99th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, Women’s Right to Vote – is set for Aug. 15, 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., at the Lee Theater. The Fort Lee community is invited to participate in the program.

The guest speaker will be Command Sgt. Maj. Tomeka N. O’Neal, senior enlisted advisor for the Defense Commissary Agency here. The program also will include a video of female senior leaders on Fort Lee. Soldiers will recite the poem “I’m a Suffragette” and perform a women’s march reenactment.

AAFES Can Help Customers Weather the Storm 

The Army and Air Force Exchange Service reminds shoppers that it stocks a large inventory of critical supplies needed for hurricane season, which continues through Nov. 30.

Essential products for emergency preparedness kits include water, batteries, flashlights, generators and more. When comparing prices, keep the Exchange’s tax-free benefit and location in mind

AAFES also stands ready with mobile field exchanges should commands request them to serve military first responders when a hurricane makes landfall. The 53-foot MFE is a trailer stocked with emergency supplies, toiletries, snacks and drinks.


CIF to Conduct Annual Inventory

The Central Issue Facility and Supply Support Activity will be closed to conduct a 100-percent inventory Aug. 19-23.

Customers are asked to complete all immediate-need transactions prior to the closure. Normal operations will resume Aug. 26. Kenner Back-to-School Clinic Set for Aug. 24

Wilkerson Pediatric Clinic has arranged a special session for school physicals, by appointment only, Aug. 24, 7:20-11 a.m.

No other types of exams will be offered (Headstart, CYS, daycare, etc.). Parents should bring immunization records, medical documentation (unless it is already part of their child’s records kept at Kenner) and eyeglasses, if applicable. From Aug. 15 - Sept. 15, special KAHC back-to-school clinics will be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4-5:30 p.m. Parents are encouraged to complete exams as soon as possible to avoid the last-minute, end-of-August rush. New students to Virginia schools cannot be enrolled without an exam.

DMV Waives Fee for CDL Skill Test

Through its Troops to Trucks program, the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles makes it easier for military members with experience in the operation of heavy vehicles to obtain a civilian commercial driver's license.

DMV will waive the skills test if an individual has at least two years of military truck driving experience and a military CDL.
