Sales Tax Holiday to be Observed Aug. 2-4

Virginia’s annual “tax-free holiday” for school supplies is set for Aug. 2-4.

Retail stores are required to waive the 5-percent sales tax on any school-related product selling at $20 or less per item. Also exempt are clothing and footwear priced at $100 or less per item and certain hurricane preparedness supplies. Because Exchange merchandise is always tax exempt, its stores are adding to the potential savings by matching local sales tax discounts to offer an additional 5.3 percent off select items.

To see which products qualify for this tax-free benefit, visit www.tax.virginia.gov/sites/default/files/inline-files/sales-tax-holiday-list-hurricane-preparedness-items.pdf.
