9/11 Service to Feature GC Remarks

A memorial service to remember the victims and pay tribute to the survivors of the 2001 terrorist attacks will be held Sept. 11, 11:45 a.m., in Liberty Chapel, corner of Mahone and C avenues. Col. Karin L. Watson, garrison commander, will be the featured speaker.

The ceremony, led by the Religious Support Office, also will be livestreamed at www.facebook.com/FortLeeReligiousActivities. Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Thomas E. Allen, RSO director and senior CASCOM chaplain, will lead the ceremony and offer opening remarks. RSO chaplains and staff will perform several musical selections. Fort Lee community members are welcome to attend the observance. Visitors are asked to wear face coverings and follow the installation’s social distancing protocols.

VWM to Conduct Virtual Patriot’s Day Program

The Virginia War Memorial will commemorate Patriot Day with a special livestream event and film presentation Sept. 11, 7 p.m.

Payday Golf Scramble Set for Sept. 18

A Payday Scramble is set for Sept. 18, 10 a.m., at the Cardinal Golf Club.

The four-person tournament is open to all eligible players. The entry fee is $25 for members, $35 for active duty military and $50 for all others. The cost includes golf, a cart, box lunch, beverages and prizes. Paid registration is required by Sept. 16; there is a $5 surcharge for those paying after the deadline.

Join CASCOM and Fort Lee Senior Commander, Maj. Gen Rodney Fogg, and other leaders for a Fort Lee Virtual Town Hall talking about COVID-19 updates on Sept. 17 at 1 p.m. The Virtual Town Hall will be streamed via Facebook Live at www.facebook.com/USACASCOM

Fort Lee’s military and civilian workforce and family members are encouraged to participate and ask questions – either directly on the Facebook Live stream or as a private message to the USACASCOM page.

Nominations Window Open for Civilian Service Awards

The Fort Lee Civilian Welfare Fund is seeking nominations for its fall Outstanding Civilian Service Awards presentation. The deadline to nominate a post employee is 5 p.m., Oct. 6.

The awards recognize civilians who display an exemplary work ethic and take the time to get involved in the community with volunteer service or other philanthropic efforts. Any Fort Lee government civilian employee may be nominated by any member of the workforce. The selectees will be announced in late October or early November.  An award ceremony will take place on a date yet to be determined.
