Jewish Holy Days

The observance of Rosh HaShanah (New Year) is under way for people of the Jewish faith. Services are being held at Congregation Brith Achim, 314 South Blvd., Petersburg. Sabbath and festival services are conducted by Chaplain Dennis Beck-Berman, a retired Army reservist.

Two Rosh HaShanah services are set for Sept. 10 – the morning service, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., and Tashlikh ceremony, 1:30-2 p.m.

Yom Kippur or Day of Atonement services are slated for Sept. 17, 6:30-9 p.m., and Sept. 18, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., 6:30-7:30 p.m., 7:30-8 p.m. and 8-9 p.m.

Other major holy days this month are Tabernacles (Sukkoth) Sept. 22-24 and Atzeret and Shimhat Torah, Sept. 29 - Oct. 1. Chanukah begins Dec. 1.

Sabbath services are Fridays 7:30-9 p.m. and Saturdays, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
